Exploring A Brighter Future
PNOC EC's Corporate Social Responsibility Program

PNOC Exploration Corporation is continuously establishing and strengthening its identity as a corporate citizen through its corporate social responsibility programs. We believe that our host communities are partners in all our endeavors and hand in hand, we will design and conduct programs that will promote their development. This is  reflected in our CSR Policy Statement that states:

"In the conduct of our business, we at PNOC EC are committed to promoting development of the communities by providing relevant corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the areas where we operate or plan to operate.

We regard this as our corporate responsibility and a key element in the attainment of our vision and mission as a Company ."

At PNOC EC, we value our stakeholders and consider their needs and interests in the design and implementation of our CSR programs. These programs are anchored on the principles of partnership and cooperation, espousing involvement of our communities in the formulation and conduct of social development programs.

Through PNOC EC's External and Community Relations Section, we implement our Kaagapay Programs. Through these programs we hope to contribute not only to the country's growth and development, but also to  the development of our stakeholders in the communities, taking small combined  steps to improve their lives.

Kaagapay Programs
"Kaagapay" - magkaagapay, aga-agapay, agapay : v. to take sides, place oneself with a side or a group1, side by side2.

This best describes PNOC EC's CSR Programs. We work side by side with our host communities to provide opportunities that will help them help themselves. We do not dictate what they need; we do not impose our CSR projects. We hear them out; we understand their needs and respect their values. Jointly, we decide and implement our Kaagapay Programs hand-in-hand.

Based on our engagement and consultations with our communities, we have made a conscious and deliberate choice to focus our CSR program aimed at addressing and have a positive impact on three (3) areas namely health, education and livelihood. Hence, most of our CSR initiatives can be categorized under either Kaagapay sa Kalusugan, Kaagapay sa Karunungan and Kaagapay sa Kabuhayan.

Kaagapay sa Kalusugan
Kaagapay sa Kalusugan Program aims to address the common health concerns of our host communities. Activities conducted for this program are annual free medical and dental outreaches to some of our project areas and supplemental feeding in several day care centers in Isabela.

In 2008, PNOC EC  rendered free medical check-up and dental service to around 2500 residents of our project areas in Isabela, Batangas and Cebu. Another 156 pre-school children were benefited by our six-month supplemental feeding program with free vitamins in three (3) barangays in Isabela Province. To complement this,  Mother's Trainings were also conducted to educate the mother's of the pre-school children on proper nutrition, health and hygiene and other related topics.

In February 2009, Healthy Heart Seminars were also conducted in our host areas in Isabela. The activity intended to develop among the residents awareness of the common cardiovascular ailments and diseases, its causes  and prevention. For this activity, blood sugar and cholesterol  levels of the participants were determined and essential medicines were given to those who required immediate medication.

Kaagapay sa Karunungan
Education is one of PNOC EC's priorities in our social agenda. We believe that helping and encouraging children to learn and value their education will provide  them brighter future and better lives.

In 2008, PNOC EC conducted  Children's Day Activities in  four elementary schools in four barangays in Isabela. For this program, fun and exciting activities were prepared for children and their teachers that promote camaraderie, sportsmanship and teamwork in their learning. All students came home with learning materials such as notebooks, pens, activity booklets and other art materials. For this activity, happiness and love were shared to more than 500 elementary students eliciting a heartwarming comment from some, "mababait naman pala ang mga taga PNOC".

At the end of school year 2008-2009, a total of 153 medals of excellence were distributed to all top three students from different grade levels in 9 elementary schools within the project area in Isabela Province. With these medals, we encourage children to study harder and strive to be better.

At the start of school year 2009-2010, PNOC-EC will provide some students with basic school supplies like school bag, notebooks, paper and writing materials. This is our way of saying to them, "Good work, go on, strive for your better life".

Kaagapay sa Kabuhayan
PNOC EC recognizes  that its presence in the different areas of operations is not permanent, thus, we aspire to provide alternative and sustainable livelihood means to the members of our different communities.

For 2009, it is our intention to conduct CSR projects that aim to provide residents of our communities long-term assistance like livelihood trainings that will improve their present craft.

Beyond Exploration....

At PNOC EC, we believe that our task does not end with our mandate of providing a stable energy supply for the country.  We value the need to serve both our stakeholders and shareholders.

Through our CSR programs, we recognize that we are vital part of communities were we operate in and it is our desire and intention  to  establish and maintain   harmonious and long-term relations with them.

Through our CSR programs handled by our External and Community Relations, we want our communities to feel the beat and heart of PNOC EC as a company. CSR is part and parcel of PNOC EC's character.  The recently Board-approved PNOC EC CSR Policy Statement has brought our CSR into the mainstream of our operations integrating social agenda into our business goals.  Together with our partners and stakeholders, we will move forward for the betterment of the Filipino.
